Every night is a party on The Mo'Nique Show. On October 5, BET premiered her show, which is taped in Atlanta.

You never know who Mo'Nique will have on her couch. Celebrities such as Nia Long, Chris Rock, and Queen Latifah have made guest appearances on her show.

From beginning to end, Mo'Nique keeps her audience pumped with live music and interaction.

She's powerful, motivating, and encourages African-American progress in the media and beyond.

Most of you may remember her from The Parkers', as Nikki, Kim's mom and Professor Ogelvee's constant pursuer. Though the show was cancelled after 5 years, the BET network picked up the sitcom for syndicated programming.

Most recently, she was a host for Showtime at the Apollo as well as her own Beauty pageant entitled Mo'Nique's fat chance (which was televised). On the big screen she had a starring role in Phat Girlz and Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins.

Before this years' end you'll be able to see her most recent film, Precious.

Mo'Nique really has her hands in a lot of different ventures, and it's always refreshing to see a woman of color representing for women who have dreams and aspirations to one day be a host of their own talk show or write for a publication.

Be sure to check out, The Mo'Nique Show on BET at 11PM/10C

Baby falls at train station

A 6-month-old baby survived after his stroller rolled off a railway station platform and into the path of an incoming train, according to CNN.com.

This incident happened yesterday at Ashburton railway station in Melbourne, Australia, the footage was captured by CCTV.

The baby's mother let go of the stroller, then moments later the stroller rolls over the edge of the platform. To make matters worse, a train then pulls into the station.

After being dragged 30 meters (33 yards) further up the track, before the train came to a halt, the baby in the stroller survived, according to CNN.com.

The baby was immediately rushed to Melbourne's Royal Children's Hospital but was later discharged.

Ironically, this incident happened just a day after the launch of a public awareness campaign warning of the dangers of strollers on platforms.

Victoria state police sergeant Michael Ferwerda told Channel 7 (a local news station): "Parents especially need to be vigilant especially with toddlers."

Obama administration closes on fiscal 2009

The Obama administration on Friday said the government ran a $1.42 trillion deficit in fiscal year 2009, according to CNN.com.

With these numbers, 2009 has been one of the worse years since WWII, according to data from the Treasury and the White House Office of Management and Budget.

Tax receipts for the year fell 16.6% overall, while spending soared 18.2% compared to fiscal year 2008. The causes: rising unemployment, the economic slowdown and the extraordinary measures taken by lawmakers to stem the economic meltdown that hit in fall 2008.Consequently, the annual deficit rose 212% to the record dollar amount of $1.42 trillion, from $455 billion a year earlier, according to CNN.com

September 30 was the end of the fiscal year.

Interracial couple can't get married in Louisiana

Justice of the peace for Tangipahoa Parish's 8th Ward, Keith Bardwell, may have some pressure to resign after he refused to marry an interracial couple in Louisiana.

Bardwell wouldn't issue a marriage license to Beth Humphrey, 30, and her boyfriend, Terence McKay, 32, both of Hammond, LA., according to CNN.com.

The elected official told Hammond's Daily Star newspaper that he was concerned for the children who might be born of the relationship and that, in his experience, most interracial marriages don't last.

"I'm not a racist," Bardwell told the newspaper. "I do ceremonies for black couples right here in my house. My main concern is for the children."

Humphrey told CNN that she called Bardwell on October 6 to ask about getting a marriage license, and was asked by his wife whether it would be an interracial marriage. Humphrey said she was told that Bardwell does not sign off on interracial marriages.

She said the couple -- who received their marriage license October 9 from another justice of the peace in the same parish -- has reached out to an attorney to determine their next step.

What do think? Is this racist?
